Club chats and channels

The three channels every club starts with

A new club is created with three channels already set up. You can add more, but these are the ones you'll find on day one.

Announcements

Everyone can read it, but only officers can post. Members can still react, so you get a read on how something landed without the thread turning into a conversation.

General Chat

The whole club, talking. Every member can read and post.

Officers

Only officers can see it - it isn't hidden-but-listed for everyone else, it simply isn't in their channel list at all.

The three kinds of channel

Internal Channels

Your club talking to itself. Only members of your club can read these, and officers can restrict individual channels further to specific roles - a committee channel, an exec channel.

Corporate Channels

Shared with an employer your club has connected with. People from that company are in the channel and can read what you post. Treat these as a room with a recruiter standing in it, because that is what they are.

Chapter Channels

Only if your club is a chapter of a larger national organization. These are run at the national level and shared down to chapters, so members of other chapters may be reading too.

On the iOS app

1. 1. Open a channel

   Open your club and pick a channel from its list. The category header above each group tells you who else can read it.

   

2. 2. Post and react

   Type to send a message. Long-press any message to react to it or reply in a thread.

   

On a web browser

1. 1. Open a channel

   At app.epichire.com, open your club and pick a channel from the sidebar. Unread channels carry a badge.

   Send messages from the composer at the bottom. Hover a message to react to it or open its thread.

   

Worth knowing

Check which channel you're in first

The category header above the channel name tells you whether you're in an internal, corporate or chapter channel. It is the difference between talking to your friends and talking to a recruiter.

Some channels are role-restricted

If a channel you expect isn't in your list, it's limited to a role you don't hold. Officers control this - see Roles and permissions.

Direct messages are somewhere else

One-to-one conversations live in the Chat tab and are separate from your club's channels. Nothing you post in a club channel appears there.

Just opening the app counts

Being active on EpicHire earns your club a point a day per active member. It's small individually and substantial across a full roster.
